Liberty, Missouri – Local law enforcement officials have charged two suspects with multiple drug trafficking and child endangerment offenses following an incident at a hotel in this Kansas City suburb. Brandon Schulenberg, 30, and Amanda Guffey, 28, are currently facing serious charges after being discovered in possession of illegal drugs and a firearm in the presence of a four-year-old child.

The investigation commenced when police received an alert from the Flock Safety camera system indicating a stolen vehicle was detected in the area. Officers responded promptly and located the stolen vehicle parked at a nearby hotel. After further investigation, they discovered Schulenberg and Guffey in a hotel room along with the young child.

Upon entering the room, officers noted the presence of a loaded ghost gun, various drugs, and drug paraphernalia readily visible. In order to ascertain the full extent of the situation, officers obtained and executed a search warrant for the premises.

The search revealed a significant quantity of illicit substances, including:

  • 17 grams of methamphetamine
  • 7.96 grams of fentanyl, which is estimated to be equivalent to approximately 3,980 fatal doses
  • 10.85 grams of an unknown powdered substance
  • Digital scales and additional drug paraphernalia

In light of the findings, the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Schulenberg with several serious offenses, which include:

  • Trafficking drugs in the second degree
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unlawful use of a weapon

A warrant has been issued for Schulenberg, and his bond has been set at $100,000. Guffey faces similar charges, including:

  • Trafficking drugs in the second degree
  • Endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Unlawful use of a weapon

Like Schulenberg, Guffey also has a warrant issued for her arrest, with her bond also set at $100,000.

Law enforcement officials have expressed grave concerns regarding the dangers that both fentanyl and ghost guns pose to community safety. Fentanyl, in particular, has been identified as a leading factor in drug-related overdose deaths, and its potency underscores a significant risk not only to users but also to children who may inadvertently come into contact with it.

This incident highlights the persistent issue of drug trafficking and its accompanying risks in local communities. Authorities are determined to take a strong stance against such activities, ensuring that those who endanger children and contribute to the drug epidemic are held accountable.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of the child involved and preventing similar situations from occurring in the future. Local residents and authorities are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
